Tuesday 4th October 2011
We met at the Washford Mill in Redditch. Our usual location in the TV room at the bottom end of the bar was closed so we found an alcove with power socket at the top end of the pub.
WiFi - Alas, the manager told us that WiFi was "broken" when Doug asked for the access code so we wouldn't be able to use it. Oddly though, Pete was able to connect and display the web login screen.
Venues - The ongoing difficulties with WiFi availability has meant that we urgently need... Read full post

This meeting was held at the Washford Mill on Tuesday, 6th September. We relocated from our usual table at the garden end of the pub to the top end to avoid the gathering crowd who had turned up to watch footy (on ALL of the pub tvs). It was much quieter in our new corner allowing easier conversation. Unfortunately, this move meant that Lee was unable to find our new, concealed location. Apologies to Lee from the group.
The following is a summary of some of the topics that we... Read full post

Tuesday's 2nd August meeting was at The Washford Mill in Redditch. Myself, Paul, Lee and Pete attended. Doug had some work commitments and couldn't make it but sent his apologies and Roger wasn't available. Both Lee and Pete said that they would probably become regular members at meetings now that Pete's college course has ended and that Lee has now worked out which Tuesday of the month we meet up on. He recently turned up on the wrong Tuesday and did a very good impersonation of Billy No Mates... Read full post

New Members
We have a couple of new members for May/June -
Lee from Matchborough in Redditch introduced himself at the meeting and told us that his wife had spotted Doug's last NEW LUG item in The Advertiser which prompted him to cycle over and meet similar geeks. We arm-twisted Lee into signing up to our website at the meeting and noted that his address verification email went into his spam folder.
Derek Coombes from Oakenshaw in Redditch registered in May but hasn't been to a meeting yet... Read full post

may 2011 meeting report washford mill
We met up at the Washford Mill on Tuesday the 3rd of May. The usual crowd were in attendance, and the beer (as usual!) was flowing. We were also joined by "Tractor" Pete, who we were glad to hear was doing very well with his brand new Ubuntu computer. He had a couple of questions about formatting an open / libre office document into columns which was easily answered. He had also installed some Ubuntu update which had managed to change his wallpaper - no one was really... Read full post

We managed to meet up at the Washford Mill in Redditch. This time the wifi seemed to be working well, all laptops connected first time with no re-boots required!
We were joined by two new members from Droitwich, Bernard and Ivor. They decided to attend the April meeting after reading the recent entry submitted to the Advertiser (printed in the Redditch, Bromsgrove and Droitwich editions). They have both started to use Ubuntu on their desktop / laptop computers and seem to be... Read full post

We met at The Washford Mill. Richard installed Linux on his super dooper new Christmas laptop. Three laptops failed to connect to Wi-Fi but Paul was lucky (this time). Why the uncertainty? Had the beer gone off perhaps?
Here are my recollections of what was decided:-
Website - Roger to complete a test website, obtain ftp/ssh details for http:/
Spam - The Elgg website is still affected by spam/blogs. Scott to find a plugin... Read full post

This meeting was at the Washford Mill, Redditch again because of the ongoing difficulties finding a venue with free WiFi in Bromsgrove. The search continues.
We attempted a dual-boot(Ubuntu/Windows 7 beta) install on a new member's laptop but unfortunately the laptop cd/dvd drive proved faulty and the installation had to be suspended. We will give an update on this when it becomes available.
The meeting made the decision to finally abandon Mailman for communication between members and... Read full post

The site was upgraded to Elgg 1.7.3 today and appears to be functioning correctly. However if you encounter any problems please start a discussion in the General group to let Admin know. Alternatively, add a comment to this blog post.

We met as usual at the Washford Mill, Redditch. Doug had tried to contact the local Papers regarding advertising the groups activities, but had had no response to his E-Mails. Scott had entered the groups details in the library records. So we were somewhat perplexed by a small advert in the advertiser relating to the group meetings. However, as a result of the advert in the advertiser, we had 3 new members. Given that we have been unable to find a suitable venue in Bromsgrove, we decided... Read full post
